This weekend we will gather to celebrate the formal signing of a declaration marking the birth of a sovereign nation.  The Declaration of Independence established the rights of all people.  “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”  When the ten men gathered in Independence Hall to pen this historical document, there was one book on th desk . . . the Bible.

Our sixth president, John Quincy Adams, stated, “The cornerstone of our new nation was laid on the precepts of Christianity.”  In the early years of the Continental Congress, a foreign diplomat asked a congressman which one is George Washington?  The congressman replied, “He will be the one that bows his knees and leads the assembly in prayer to God.”

As we celebrate this weekend, we need to remember the wisdom, courage, and deep faith of our founding fathers that, with much sacrifice, forged the principles on which our nation was sustained.  Ronald Reagan said it best: “Here for the first time, our founding Fathers–that little band of men so advanced beyond their time, that the world has never seen their like since.

We love our Land!  Each of us needs to bow our heads in appreciation that, in God’s divine providence, we were blessed to be born in this great nation.  Politics aside, America’s history is a testament to the faithfulness and favor of Almighty God.  Let the celebration begin!

What began as an experiment in government has impacted the lives of billions, and it remains today worthy of our allegiance and respect.  While we stand in respect of our flag, we worship only at the feet of our Savior.  Our loyalty is vested in the King of heaven who made America the land of the brave and the free.
